Today marked the end of an era as Gary & Cheryl celebrated their last day at Applied Radiators before retirement.

It was a bittersweet moment for all of the team as we said goodbye to two incredible colleagues who have been instrumental to the company's success.

Gary & Cheryl have been more than just colleagues though. They are a huge part of the Applied Radiators family, and always will be good friends that are held in the highest regard.

We wish them both all the very best for the future & we hope that retirement brings a long & happy new chapter filled with joy, relaxation, and everything that they have been looking forward to.

However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our Burton depot was closed for 2 years from the start of lockdown and our Burton team members worked from home. All operations were then carried out from our head office in Stoke and the service provided to our clients in the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire areas were unaffected. Due to this, and also investment made at our head office, we closed the doors to our Burton depot in 2022 for the last time. How do forklifts work?

The hydraulic cylinders are operated through a series of functions. The lift handle is pressed which triggers an electrical air pump at the base of the forklift to pull air from outside through a filter and pushes it into a tube to the hydraulic cylinders. Hydraulic cylinders are made from a hollow tube closed at one end with a flexible lubricated piston fitting into the other. The pressure is raised by the volume of gas in the cylinder which creates an upward force and allows the pistons to move. This creates physical equilibrium at the forklift height and equivalent force from the gas and forklift’s load.

These hydraulic pistons are attached to the two main vertical structures called masts. The forks that carry the load are attached to the body of the forklift with a pair of roller chain pulleys whose fulcrum forms a gear at the top of the mast. So when the hydraulic pistons push the masts in an upward direction, the gears on the masts are pressed against the roller chains. This works because one part of the chain is fixed to the immovable frame of the forklift. The only way the masts can move upward is when the gears rotate in a clockwise direction and pull the forks overhead. The mechanism allows the forks to go far away from the reach of the cylinders.

The New Year is now in full swing and we are looking forward to what it has in store.

The past 2 years have presented us with new & unexpected challenges due to the pandemic.

Our head office & workshop in Stoke-On-Trent remained open throughout lockdown, providing priority support for the emergency services and, of course, for the haulage, industrial and rail sectors. We were fortunate that most of our team managed to navigate through this period without having to isolate, so our staffing levels remained high for the majority of lockdown.

However, 2022 has presented us with an early challenge as we now have a number of staff off work and in isolation. This may have a small affect on a limited number of our services, however we will endeavour to keep any potential delays to a minimum, so please bear with us over the next week or so.

In the long term we will be implementing some new changes, the first of which is as follows:

GB EU Flag Plates

After 31st December 2020, the UK’s Brexit transition period with the EU will come to an end.

As a result, GB EU number plates will no longer be permitted to be fitted to vehicles from 1st January 2021, as announced by the UK government on 30th November 2020.

Owners of vehicles that already have GB EU plates fitted to the vehicle do not have to be replace them, however if you are travelling overseas a legal GB oval sticker must be displayed.

LEGAL CHANGES

The amended Statutory Instrument confirms that GB EU flags are only permitted during the UK’s membership of the EU, i.e. before the end of the Brexit transition period (see explanatory note regulation 4).

(Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) (Amendment) (EU Exit) (No. 2) Regulations 2020)

This new legislation comes into effect from the 1st January 2021.

EXISTING GB EU FLAG PLATES

As long as the plate was fitted before 1st January 2021, there is no need to remove & replace your existing plates. It is entirely down to your preference.

However, if you intend to keep your existing GB EU flag plates, you will also need to display a legal GB oval if you intend to travel to the EU in your vehicle.

ALTERNATIVE FLAG PLATES

There are a range of legal regional flag plates that we can supply, including:

GB / Great Britain and the Union Flag.
ENG / England and the Cross of St George.
CYM / Cymru and the Welsh Dragon.
SCO / Scotland and the Saltire.

(Please note, if you intend to travel overseas you will need to display a legal GB oval sticker. A regional flag plate is not recognised as an official notifier that your vehicle is from the UK.)

Our commercial vehicle stock range is healthy. Products on the shelf & ready to go include radiators, intercoolers & condensers for the majority of trucks on the UK's roads. We also continue to offer our specialist workshop services, including diesel/hydraulic/ad blue tank cleaning & repairs, oil cooler cleaning/testing & DPF cleaning. Plus we are able to assist with other services including propshaft repairs, Ser/ex power steering boxes & new Hella rotating electrics products which include starter motors & alternators.

To safeguard our staff & customers as much as possible our reception doors at our Stoke & Burton depots will remain locked during the day.

As a key supplier to the emergency service, haulage & rail industries our continuing No. 1 priority is to support these sectors through these difficult times.

We continue to operate on limited staff levels, as are the majority of our suppliers. This is unfortunately affecting lead times on a number of our products & services for other sectors. Wherever possible, we will try & keep these delays to a minimum.

The cut off times for any products ordered in remain to be anywhere between 13.30 & 15.30. Ideally for next working day delivery orders need to be placed by 13.30 (subject to availability).

With over 200 different models of truck radiators, intercoolers & condensers on the shelf at our Stoke depot, our stock remains healthy. Our specialist workshop staff continue to be on hand to carry out any diesel/hydraulic & ad-blue tank repairs as well as other services, including DPF cleaning.

Don't forget, we can also assist with other services, including propshaft repairs & the supply of turbos, starter motors, alternators & power steering boxes.

Our Burton depot remains temporarily closed & all calls made to our Burton depot's phone number are being diverted to our Stoke depot.

Rest assured, we will continue to offer our products & services to our Burton customers as normal while our staff member continues to work from home.

Our Stoke depot opening hours continue to be 08.30 - 17.00, Monday to Friday.

We'll be remaining closed on Saturday mornings until further notice & this will be reviewed on a week by week basis.

Our continuing No. 1 priority is to provide our products & services to the emergency services, haulage & rail sector.

We are currently operating on minimum staff levels, as are the majority of our suppliers & this will unfortunately affect lead times on some of our products & services for other sectors. However, we will try & keep this to a minimum wherever possible. The cut off times for parcel deliveries at our suppliers are now anywhere between 13.30 & 15.30 & this will also lead to some delays.

Our stock levels remain healthy with over 200 different models of truck Radiators, Intercoolers & Condensers in stock at our Stoke depot.

Also, our specialist workshop staff are on hand to carry out any diesel/hydraulic & ad-blue tank repairs as well as DPF cleaning among other services.

We are also able to assist with other services, including propshaft repairs & the supply of turbos, starter motors, alternators & power steering boxes.

Our Burton depot remains closed for the time being as our staff member is continuing to work from home. All calls made to our Burton depot's phone number are being diverted to our Stoke depot.

Update 02/04/20

As a key supplier to the emergency services, haulage & rail industry we remain open for business.

Our commercial vehicle stock has recently received a boost after a large delivery, including brand new OEM radiators & intercoolers for the popular Volvo FH & FM Euro 6 models. We are also on hand for our other services including tank cleaning & repairs (diesel/hydraulic/Ad-Blue) & propshaft repairs.

Our Burton depot remains closed for the time being while our staff member works from home. Rest assured, we will continue to support our Burton depot customers.

There is a slight change to our Stoke office opening hours, these will now be…

Mon – Fri: 08.30 – 17.00.

We will be closed on the following dates…

Sat 04th April.

Fri 10th April (Good Friday).

Sat 11th April.

Mon 13th April (Easter Monday).

Sat 18th April.

Sat 25th April.

We will be reviewing our Saturday opening hours on a weekly basis after the Easter period.

Update 27/03/20

Further to our previous update and with the ever changing circumstances, we have now made further changes which will enable us to adapt to the current climate.

Our head office & workshop in Stoke-On-Trent will be remaining open. However this will be with a reduced number of staff, both in our office & our workshop.

Our Burton Upon Trent depot will be temporarily closed from end of business on Monday 30th March until further notice. Whilst the office will be closed, we will still continue to offer our goods & services to our Burton depot customers.

We have taken these measures to safeguard our staff, suppliers & customers as much as possible.

Our number 1 priority now is to serve our commercial vehicle & rail work customers. We recognise it is absolutely vital that as many trucks, emergency service vehicles & goods trains are in active service in this difficult time. As previously mentioned our stock of truck radiators & intercoolers is good, plus we are also on hand for other services including the cleaning & repair of Diesel, Hydraulic & Ad-Blue tanks.

Unfortunately, this will now mean that there will be inevitable delays for a number for a number of our other customers. We will try to keep this to a minimum, wherever possible.

Understandably, a number of our suppliers have reduced their staff levels & minimised services, plus there are also others which have closed completely until at least the 14th April which will also have an effect.

We will continue to monitor the situation & will provide further updates in the coming days & weeks.
